Miinjeni Women Organization
- INTRODUCTION:
Miinjeni Women Organisation formerly Minjeni Women Group is a non-profit organisation registered in 2005. However, in 2019 it achieved the status of an NGO and expanded its role from within the Region of Kilimanjaro to Tanzania main land. Miinjeni head quarter office is located in Moshi town in Mfumuni ward at Ushirika Street. The founder and present director of Miinjeni is Romana Sudi Puka Olomi who grew up in Uru Shimbwe.
Miinjeni originates from Chagga language meaning shadow. The shadow is the philosophy of having good shaded trees that are well watered and cared. After the trees have grown bear fruits of which members enjoy the fruits of those trees. This is because the shadow is a cool place and safety where marginalized groups are welcome to visit, feel supported and relieve their social stress. Therefore, the philosophy of shadow brought women together, sat under the tree and figured out what were the main problems in their community and how they could be solved under the Moto of “Together we can”.
The vision of Miinjeni is to have well-educated community that can take appropriate measures to fight poverty. To achieve the vision, Miinjeni integrates programs that empower communities to obtain knowledge and skills in respective of gender equity and equality. Miinjeni believes that this will contribute to economic empowerment and social transformation for sustainable development.
Miinjeni working approach is highly characterized by massive grassroots mobilization to ensure that people at low levels of communities understand and take appropriate measures to fight poverty.
